Healing from Childhood Sexual Trauma: Transforming Your Identity with Tony Robbins’ Teachings.
Overcoming a sexual trauma, specifically one that occurred in childhood can feel—mentally, emotionally, and physically overwhelming. In my experience the trauma leaves deep imprints on the subconscious, shaping beliefs about self-worth, relationships, and your safety in the world. And healing is possible. You are not broken—you are capable of transformation. Know that you can walk through the pain in a holistic way, you don’t need to keep self medicating, and living out the pain of the past.
Tony Robbins is one of the most well known self-development and high performance mindset coach. You may not think about him when trying to healing sexual trauma but his teaching are still applicable to this tender subject. His work focuses on shifting limiting beliefs, rewiring the nervous system, and creating a new identity—one that is no longer defined by the past, but by who you choose to become. Tony Robbins’ approach is another modality and method to help you break free from trauma’s grip, and create the life of your dreams.
One of Tony Robbins’ core teachings is that
“the strongest force in the human personality is the need to stay consistent with how we define ourselves.”
For many survivors of childhood sexual trauma, the subconscious identity becomes “I am broken”, “I am unworthy”, or “I am powerless.” These beliefs aren’t the truth—but they feel real because they were formed at a very young age. For me, I had identified with the victim longer than any other identity. This is an identity, so you can choose to pick a new one…One that serves and will get you what you desire. The moment you decide, I am no longer a victim, I am a creator of my own life, everything shifts.
Rewrite your identity. Instead of seeing yourself as someone who is broken, claim an empowering identity: I am a warrior, I am a healer, I am a creator of my future.
Interrupt negative patterns. Catch yourself when you fall into old stories and consciously reframe them.
Use powerful incantations. Speak new truths about yourself daily—ones that align with the woman you want to become. Speak them in a high energy state. Say something that your subconscious will not rebuke or deny.
Changing Your State: Rewiring the Nervous System for Healing.
Tony emphasizes the power of state management—the ability to shift your emotions and physical energy in an instant. Trauma often traps us in a state of fear, shame, or sadness. These heavy and dense emotional states keep us stuck in the past. As long as we are stuck in the past we are never going to change. Your emotions are created by your physiology and focus. By changing how you move, breathe, and think, you can transform your emotional state.
Move your body. Trauma is stored in the body—so moving it breaks the cycle. Dance, exercise, shake it out, or practice yoga. This is why I love Twerking. You move the area where the trauma occurred. Twerking is therapeutic and fun! What is not to love about it?
Change your focus. Where focus goes, energy flows. If you focus on pain, you’ll feel more pain. Instead, focus on possibilities, love, and gratitude. For example, when feeling triggered, shift your physiology—stand taller, smile, or take deep belly breaths.
Use breathwork. Deep breathing regulates the nervous system and signals safety to the body. Tony teaches powerful breath techniques, like primal breathing, to shift into an empowered state.
Your Past Does Not Define You.
Tony Robbins teaches that our beliefs shape our destiny. Many trauma survivors hold limiting beliefs such as:
I will never feel safe.
Love and trust are dangerous.
I am damaged and broken.
But beliefs are not facts—they are patterns we’ve adopted. Tony’s approach is to identify and get rid of these limiting beliefs before they dictate your future.
Write down your limiting beliefs and challenge them. Are they absolutely true? Who would you be without them?
Replace them with empowering beliefs. Example: I am strong. I am healing. I create my own future.
Take action that reinforces your new beliefs. If you believe you are powerful, do something bold—take a class, start a new hobby, or speak your truth.
